I Don't Need the Whole Bottle

With a trip coming up, my bedroom has reached that very specific stage of travel preparation where there are clothes everywhere, an open suitcase on the floor, and I'm beginning to question why I apparently believe I need several different versions of the same outfit to spend ten days in Italy.

I'm trying to pack light. I really am.

I've gotten much better at it over the years, partly because I've travelled enough to learn that I will happily wear the same favourite things over and over again while everything I packed "just in case" enjoys a lovely European vacation from the bottom of my suitcase.

Skincare, however, is one place where I don't particularly want to compromise.

I love Eminence, my skin loves Eminence, and ten days of different water, airplanes, sunshine, wine, late dinners and whatever other wonderful decisions I make in Italy probably isn't the moment I want to introduce my face to a completely different skincare routine.

And while most eminence products are under the airplane size restrictions, what I don't need is to bring my entire bathroom with me. This is, after all, a refillery.

We've put together tiny empty travel containers with labels that you can pick up at Re:mind before your trip. Bring them home, dispense enough of your own Eminence products - or your line of choice -  to get you through your travels, and suddenly your entire skincare routine takes up a fraction of the space it did before. The containers are small enough to work beautifully for carry-on packing, and because they're labelled, you don't arrive at your hotel three days later staring suspiciously at two tiny white creams wondering which one is your moisturizer and which one is something you definitely shouldn't put all over your face.

There's something about this that feels very Re:mind to me because it's such a simple solution to a problem we've somehow been taught requires buying more stuff.

Travel sections are filled with miniature versions of products we already own. We buy the tiny shampoo, the tiny body wash, the tiny toothpaste and the tiny skincare, use them for a week, and quite often throw the containers away when we get home. Then we repeat the whole process the next time we travel.

I'm not suggesting anyone needs to achieve some perfectly zero-waste vacation. I certainly won't be wandering around Northern Italy examining every decision I make for its environmental credentials. But I do like looking for the little places where doing something differently is incredibly easy. Taking the amount of skincare I actually need is one of them.

It's lighter, it takes up less room, I don't have to buy products I already own, and I'm not creating a collection of tiny plastic bottles that will inevitably live under my bathroom sink until I finally admit I'm never going to use them again.

More importantly, I'm travelling with products I already know and love. There is enough happening to our skin while travelling without deciding that vacation is the ideal time to conduct a skincare experiment. Airplane cabins are dry, our routines change, we're exposed to different weather, and if you're anything like me, you're probably staying up later and enjoying a little more wine than you would on an average Tuesday. 

Sustainability doesn't have to mean travelling with seventeen mason jars and making your own toothpaste in the hotel bathroom. It can simply mean looking at what you already have before buying another version of it.

Airplane Mode: Kombucha Leave on Masque - this keeps not only my face but my hands soft and moisturized instead of drying out from that airplane air.

Eyes: I'm obsessing right now with the new Vitamin C+ Eye Cream, but classically Snow Mushrooms been my go to to help with those jetlag eyes.
